In the best period of springtime,
flowers are in full bloom, giving out their scent in the refreshing breeze.
In the warm air of spring, why not make a kite
to release your feelings and your hopes?
The kite has a history of over 2,000 years since its invention in ancient China during the Eastern Zhou and Spring & Autumn Periods. The traditional workmanship of a kite is complex and emphasizes the four processes of binding, pasting, painting and releasing. The entire production process has to undergo numerous steps, including the original concept, material selection, bamboo chopping, final design, binding, clipping, painting and pasting, before a traditional kite can be completed.
Carrying our intangible heritage and falling in love with the national tide
On the afternoon of May 7, staff members from various NGC departments participated in a hands-on kite making experience organized by the Business Management Department, based on the theme of “Building a Kite to Chase the Sun”. During the activity, employees learned about the beauty of this intangible cultural heritage and the physical structure of a kite. Everyone was able to master the methods and create their own kites. Thin bamboo strips were used as the skeleton and framework, which were then bound into the shape of a bird. Paper or thin silk was then pasted onto the framework, which was painted and finally sewn up with thread.
This hands-on experience allowed our staff to enjoy the traditional customs of the ancients and fall in love with our national heritage.
Make a date with the spring breeze at just the right time
During the activity, staff members and their children unleashed their imagination and manual dexterity to make their very own kite, using different brushes and unrestricted designs. They were pleased with the kites they had made, pinning their hopes on the spring and letting their dreams fly high. The activity trained their skills and imagination, widening the children’s horizons and fostering their enthusiasm for life and nature. They experienced the fun of kite making and understood the charm of China’s cultural heritage. Everyone became immersed in an atmosphere of joy and laughter while holding their very own kite in their hands.
Make a date with the spring breeze and let all your wishes fly up high.
